Information about Mastiffs.

The Mastiff is a group of several breeds of dog.

The Bullmastiff, also known as the Gamekeeper's Night Dog, was originally bred during the 19th Century by English gamekeepers to deal with the increasing problems caused by poachers. Combining the best attributes of the Old English Bulldog and the English Mastiff, they produced the fearless and magnificent Bullmastiff that we know and love today. The breed was recognised by The Kennel Club in 1924.

American Mastiff - a cross between the English Mastiff and the Anatolian Mastiff bred to drool less and to live a longer life.

English Mastiff - often simply known as a Mastiff, the oldest breed of British Dog.

Spanish Mastiff - originating in Greece despite its name, bred to be a sheepdog and a guard dog.

Neopolitan Mastiff - also known as the Italian Mastiff, a truly ancient breed of dog bred as a guard dog.

Tibetan Mastiff - ancient breed of dog originating in Central Asia.

French Mastiff - also known as the Bordeaux Mastiff or the Dogue de Bordeaux, an ancient mastiff originating in the Bordeaux region of France.

Italian Mastiff - better known as the Cane Corso, possibly originally derived from the Neopolitan Mastiff.
